1. This version of the QRE1113 branch board has digital outputs and uses a capacitor discharge circuit to measure reflections.
2. This compact board is suitable for line sensing when only digital I/O is available and can be used in both 3.3V and 5V systems.
3. The evaluation board\'s QRE1113 infrared reflectance sensor consists of two parts - an infrared emitting LED and an infrared sensitive phototransistor.
4. The IR LED inside the sensor lights up when you apply power to the VCC and GND pins.
5. A 100Ω resistor is on-board and placed in series with the LED to limit the current. The output of the phototransistor is connected to a 10nF capacitor.
6. The faster the capacitor discharges, the more reflective the surface becomes.
7. These sensors are widely used in production line tracking robots.
8. White surfaces reflect more light than black surfaces, so the capacitor discharges faster when pointed at a white surface than when pointed at a black surface.
9. The power input and output pins both leading out into 3-pin, 0.1-inch pitch header sockets. The board also has a mounting hole if you wish to screw it to the board.
